FAQs

How long are lessons?

Lessons are usually either 30 or 60 minutes. Most students begin with 30 minutes and when they become more advanced they can choose to take a weekly hour lesson. For younger kids, 30 minute lessons generally consist of about 25 minutes of instruction with the remaining few minutes being used to show parents what we are working on so they can better assist with homework and to evaluate how the student is progressing.

How Do I Take Care of My Instrument?

Each instrument is different, but all instruments should be kept in a room temperature area. For guitar, bass and ukulele, we offer repair services. Generally students have their string instrument “set up” at least once a year. Strings should be replaced at least once a year with your set up, but sometimes more regularly for students who play a lot . For instance, some students change their guitar strings once a month and others once a year. As a general rule of thumb, we suggest changing your guitar strings once every 3 months and getting a full set up once a year. Bass guitars and ukulele do not need string changes as regularly. Pianos need to be tuned at least once a year by a professional piano tuner. Keyboards have the lowest amount of maintenance, but dusting/disinfecting the keys regularly is a good habit.

How Much Practice is Recommended Per Week?

20 minutes to a half hour each day is best for beginners. It’s always better to practice small amounts on a consistent basis so that concepts and learning are retained.

What is the Best Way to Communicate With My Teacher?

In order to ensure a quick response, we recommend contacting the academy directly via text or email. However, you can also send a message directly to your teacher via the student portal if you hope they have information at their next lesson. For example: choosing a song to learn, or difficulty with a particular homework assignment. This is not monitored by staff, but will send an email to you teacher and they will see it at your next lesson!
